Some of the most pleasant memories of my youth were regular trips to the movie theatre with my parents.

Theatres were single screen, with ornate décor and uniformed ushers, and movie excursions were considered a big night out.

My parents no longer go to the movies, not because of their advanced age, but because they find very little that appeals to them. But occasionally, I can talk them into a DVD rental for home viewing, so I told them about The Bucket List.

In this tale of two terminally ill patients trying to squeeze as much life as possible into their final days, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman give convincing, if not engaging performances that clearly demonstrate that these two seniors still have their acting chops.

And while the story is predictable with a heavy dose of schmaltz, The Bucket List is a perfect choice for people who don't need gunfire or special effects to be entertained. People like my parents. And me.
