A simple test can determine if you should rent or buy Mamma Mia! on DVD.
First, do you like movies that are made from Broadway musicals? Next, do you like Meryl Streep? Third, are you a fan of Abba’s music? And finally, are you ready to see Pierce Brosnan’s awkward, and obviously ill-advised singing debut?
If the answer to all of these questions is “yes” then you’re ready for the film adaptation of this lighthearted, female-friendly production that delivers a charming story set to the music of one of the world’s most successful pop music bands.
When I saw Mamma Mia! on stage in London a few years back I thought it was a clever piece of work and I am pleased to report that Hollywood has done a decent job of bringing it to life for movie lovers. But if you are taken aback by actors bursting into song in the middle of their dialogue, spend your money elsewhere.
